일제하 이선길의 유도 활동에 관한 연구

초록

The purpose of this study is to disclose the meritorious deed of Lee Seon-gil that he left behind for the history of Judo in Korea through his Judo activities during the Japanese ruling period as studies have yet to handle such topic empirically to this point. The method of study is to analyze on the basis of document data, such as, dictionary, newspapers, magazines and others related to the Judo activities and the result is shown as follows. Lee Seon-gil began to learn Judo from the Joseon Branch of Kõdõkan, Joseon Branch of DaiNipponButokukai, and others from 1917 and he acquired 6th level. In addition, he engaged in numerous activities in competitions held by the Joseon Regional Headquarter of DaiNipponButokukai, Joseon Police Association and others. Furthermore, in Zen Nihon Judo Sensiken Taikai held in Japan, he won three times and runner-up twice. Such Judo activities as shown for Lee Seon-gil contributed in demonstrating outstanding skills of Korean not only in Joseon but also in Japan. Therefore, the Judo activities of Lee Seon-gil have to be re-evaluated academically for domestic Judo affiliated personnel but also for the general public as well.
