‘식민지 계몽주의’에 관한 트랜스내셔널 시각과 비평: 근대의 자원병 혹은 징집병

초록

This article aims to examine critically the concepts of ‘global enlightenment’ and ‘colonial enlightenment’ from transnational perspectives in order to diagnose their historical legacy in postcolonial era. How did Eurocentric Enlightenment along with its ‘civilization mission’ transform itself into imperial ideology? To what extents did Western empires succeed in manipulating the ‘colonial matrix of power ’and ‘geo-politics of knowledge’ to mobilize volunteers or conscripts of modernity in their colonies? How did the life story of Tousaint Louverture symbolize the paradox of Enlightenment in general and the tragedy of Colonial Enlightenment in particular? Is transnational prospective an alternative solution to overcome the limit of ‘colonial modernity’ thesis? By trying to answer these questions, the article intends to sketch a theoretical and methodological topology useful for re-writing a transnational intellectual history.
