초록
This study will focus on the key features of the work of Shura-Noh by Motomasa. The main character differs greatly between the first half and the second half of the story. The main character, in the story of the second half is proceeded in the first person thereby helping to dramatize his emotions, agonies and distress. Motomasa focuses on vividly describing people’s agony and deep sorrows unlike Zeami, who expresses profound tastes and the elegance of the upper class through classical Waka and Chinese poetry. Such expressions help to clearly empathize their emotions and reveal the core reasons for the main character’s distress and anguish. The main subject of Motomasa’s play is not the personal ambition of a famous warrior. By taking the socially disadvantaged as a main character, it contains the deep anguishes and agonies of human beings. This is seen in such examples as parents’ deep sorrow for their children who were lost in the war, the deep resentment and anguish of parents who lost their children from human trafficking, an old mother who wants to appease a vengeful spirit of a victimized soul who seeks revenge and finally a thoughtful daughter’s consideration to boost the pride of an exiled warrior. These are quite opposite to Zeami’s pursuit of elegance. Such a distinction mainly lies in the different political perception between Motomasa and Zeami, and Motomasa’s strong resistance to his father’s influence.
