This paper examines the changes in membership and operation of Ibamhyangyak, which was implemented at Ibam Village, Giji Town, Namwon in Jeolla-do Province, in the 18th and 19th centuries. In this paper, among the materials of Ibamhyangyak, 『Gijiibamhyangyakan(機池笠巖鄕約案)』(1795), 『Gijiibamrigyeheon(機池笠巖里稧憲)』(1833), 『Ibamsasil(笠巖事實)』(1878) and 『Gijibangibamchonhyangyakan (機池坊笠巖村鄕約案)』(1883) were analyzed. First, the members of Ibamhyangyak in the 18th and 19th centuries were the Shin, Kim, Ji, Bang, Cho and Hwang lineage and others. And most of them were far from taking the government official positions. As time passed, many different lineages were penetrated. Second, while the provisions of Ibamhyangyak did not directly present the four virtues of Hyangyak, they were written focused on Beolmok which means items related on punishments. In regards to the composition of Beolmok, 『Gijiibamhyangyakan』(1795) and 『Gijibangibamchonhyangyakan』(1883) consisted of 7 Sangbeol, 14 Jungbeol, and 4 Habeol, which are harsh, moderate and light punishments respectively, while 『Gijiibamrigyeheon』(1833) consists of 8 Sangbeol, 10 Jungbeol, and 3 Habeol. The same punishments were applied among them: Sangbeol gets struck 30 times on the buttocks with a paddle and the temporary suspension of membership, Jungbeol and Habeol get struck 20 and 10 times respectively. Third, in Ibamhyangyak, the contents related to Hwannansanghyul other than Beolmok were found. The Ibamhyangyak data from 1795, 1833, and 1883 state that those who were mourning and those who were in a state of giving up farming due to illness were to be assisted. In addition, in 『Gijiibamrigyeheon (機池笠巖里稧憲)』, five additional provisions were written, and they are about lending out items used in funerals and weddings including funeral biers, tents, plates, and bowls. Fourth, Ibamhyangyak required to pay Sinibjeon, which is fee imposed on new members in order to secure fund. Also, tax was collected every year from Ibamhyangyak’s Dongdab, which is land owned by Hyangyak, to be used in Hyangyak.
