This study classifies air pollution patterns at major Korean ports and suggests differentiated environmental management strategies. Time-series data of PM2.5 and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) concentrations from 15 national trade ports were analyzed using the K-medoids clustering algorithm with Euclidean, DTW, and TWE distance measures. The results indicate that PM2.5 patterns are strongly influenced by geographic proximity, with West Coast ports showing higher concentrations and variability, whereas South Coast and East Coast ports display more stable patterns. In contrast, NO₂ patterns are more closely related to port operational intensity and urban adjacency, reflecting a direct impact from ship and cargo-handling emissions. Based on the clustering results, this study proposes customized management strategies, including regional cooperative control (for high-PM2.5 ports) and operational emission-focused measures, such as vessel speed reductions and alternative maritime power for high-NO₂ ports. The findings provide a scientific basis for shifting from uniform regulations to type-based environmental management policies.
