초록

This paper analyzes the function of connecting endings in the context of discourse·text. The researcher focuses on the context in which the writer uses connecting endings instead of short sentences to form sentences. To conduct this analysis in the context of discourse·text, the study applied the Rhetorical Structure Theory(RST)—an instrument for examining discourse·text from columns written by experts—to analyze the role of connecting endings. ‘-go’ is the most commonly used connecting ending in columns. ‘-go’ connects two coordinate meanings and also serves as seven rhetorical meanings of elaboration, volitional result, sequence, contrast, background, evidence, and joint, specifically, among which it is largely used as the meaning of sequence. As ‘-jiman’ means ‘contrary to the previous description’, it can be expected to mean contrast. However, it is used in the context of antithesis and concession. Further, ‘-(eu)myeo’ is rhetorically used as joint as well as specific elaboration or evidence. The study also found that it is used with ‘-(eu)myeo’ and ‘-go’ in the context of joint.
