5G 서비스 가입자의 모바일 서비스 이용 변화
초록
This paper analyzed how users changed their usage behavior of major mobile Internet services such as SNS, chatting, games, video, and TV viewing when switching from 4G to 5G service through the estimation of a fixed-effect panel model based on data constructed from 2018 to 2021. As a result of the analysis, users significantly increased only mobile viewing time such as video and TV broadcasting after signing up for 5G services, and other increases in service usage time such as chatting, SNS services, and games were not statistically significant. In addition, these results were consistent regardless of whether or not unlimited plan subscriptions were considered, and unlimited plan subscription itself significantly increased chat and game usage time. Despite the perception and dissatisfaction that 5G is not much different from 4G services, it can be seen that 5G service users respond to the difference of 5G services compared to 4G services through the increase in real-time or non-real-time use of video content. Since the early days of 5G service, the speed of mobile internet service has been improved by about five times and various types of video content services specialized in 5G have been tried and provided, which can be seen as having a certain impact. On the other hand, the results related to services such as chatting, SNS, and games can be seen as reflecting that proper differentiated services that can induce an increase in 5G users’ service usage time are not yet in full swing in these fields. In the end, the speed and coverage of 5G services are important, but the development and provision of services to experience such an improved environment are key factors that allow users to experience actual service differentiation, and in this regard, additional attention is required from related business operators and policy authorities.
