Standardization and Standard Grammar in Korean Language Education for foreigners

초록

This study aims to make the following arguments. First, the concept of standardization and standard grammar in Korean language education for foreigners differs from that for native speakers. Second, while normative grammar should be taught in Korean language education, it is also necessary to teach vocabulary, expressions, and grammatical forms that are actually used in real communication. Third, to achieve this, frequently used nonstandard forms and grammatical variants that can be explained by linguistic rules should be incorporated into the standard grammar. Fourth, Standard Korean refers to the generally used form of the language, including both formal written and informal spoken varieties, all of which should be described within standard grammar. In order to do so, detailed descriptions of grammatical variation are required, along with in-depth discussions on how to effectively teach such phenomena in Korean language education.
