IntroductionNonthermal electromagnetic stimulation has been investigated for its potential effects on tissue repair, regeneration, and inflammatory modulation. However, clinical evidence regarding its use as a standalone modality for facial skin rejuvenation remains limited. This prospective pilot study evaluated the effects of nonthermal electromagnetic stimulation on facial skin biophysical parameters and clinical outcomes.MethodsIn this prospective, single-arm pilot study, 20 Korean adults with facial skin aging underwent five weekly sessions of electromagnetic stimulation using CoreSculpt-F. Assessments were performed at baseline and follow-up visits through Week 8. Objective outcomes included transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin hydration, cutometer-derived elasticity parameters (R2, R5, and R7), melanin and erythema indices, and imaging-based analysis. Patient satisfaction, investigator global assessment, and adverse events were also evaluated.ResultsNineteen participants completed all treatment sessions and the Week 8 follow-up visit. TEWL decreased significantly over time, indicating improved epidermal barrier function. Skin hydration showed a numerical increase without statistical significance. Skin elasticity parameters R2 and R7 increased significantly, whereas R5 did not change significantly. The erythema index decreased significantly, while the melanin index showed a modest but significant reduction. Imaging analysis demonstrated significant reductions in erythema and increased skin radiance. Patient satisfaction improved significantly with all subjects reporting satisfaction (score >= 4) at the final visit. Investigator assessments also showed significant improvement. No serious adverse events were observed.ConclusionsNonthermal electromagnetic stimulation was associated with improvements in facial skin biophysical parameters, including barrier function, elasticity, and erythema-related skin tone, along with favorable clinical outcomes. These preliminary findings suggest that nonthermal electromagnetic stimulation may represent a promising noninvasive approach for facial skin rejuvenation. Further randomized, sham-controlled studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are warranted to confirm these results.
