4차 산업혁명 시대, 교양교육으로서 철학의 의의

As the employment rate becomes more important, the disregard for the humanities is expanding, and the value of philosophy is being questioned even more. Philosophy is an abstract discipline that only deals with unrealistic discussions, and is considered a discipline that has nothing to do with practicality. The devaluation of the humanities has a great impact on liberal arts education closely related to the humanities. Universities are in a hurry to organize courses that are advantageous for employment as liberal arts education. But in fact, it is no exaggeration to say that philosophy has never been greatly welcomed since the beginning of time. Thales, considered the first philosopher, was teased by the people of his time, and Socrates, as well known, was hated by many and ended his life by drinking poison. Although there are exceptional cases, it is also clear that philosophy has been regarded as an annoyance rather than welcome in society due to its critical spirit. Philosophy quietly played the role of Minerva's owl, but mainly criticized society and assumed the role of a break that tried to go against it. So, what will philosophy be like in the era of the 4th industrial revolution that has just begun? In the face of the great change of the 4th industrial revolution, will philosophy be regarded as a useless and powerless existence that cannot keep up with the flow? Above all, what can and should philosophy do in a time of transformation where AI replaces not only human physical but also mental labor? 15Furthermore, what contribution can philosophy make in the new era? In response to these questions, this article intends to show that philosophy can renew the existing image and expand its presence in the midst of changes in the 4th industrial revolution. In addition, philosophy is not a science that is separated from reality, but it is intended to reveal the fact that it can make a concrete contribution to humans and society. In other words, in the era when AI replaces humans, philosophy will have a more important status, and I would like to argue that the liberal arts philosophy for the general public will have more important meaning, especially for non-professional philosophers.
