The purpose of this study is to identify the current status and trend of music college flute entrance examinations in Korea over the past decade, and to compare and analyze them with music works designated by major music colleges in the United States to provide useful information for college admission to music colleges for college entrance. To this end, eight universities in Seoul and the metropolitan area, which have been opening flute majors for 10 years from 2014 to 2024, were selected to analyze the music designated for entrance exams by each university, and compared and analyzed with the music designated for entrance exams by three major music universities in the United States. The results of this study are as follows. First, 77 pieces (39.4%) corresponded to the era of romantic music, followed by the era of classical music (50; 25.3%) and the era of music (49; 24.8%) in the 20th century. Second, Mozart's Flute Concerto in G major (K.313) appeared to be the most frequently presented, appearing 38 times out of a total of 61 works. Third, among the 26 pieces of the 20th century presented as entrance exam songs, 18 were presented only once. It implies that music faculties want to measure students' performance skills about new music. Fourth, the United States used both mandatory and optional and limited music pieces to evaluate entrance exam applicants in more diverse aspects than Korea. Lastly, students preparing for top universities need to prepare for sight reading and scale, and even if they choose their own song rather than a designated song, it is judged to be effective to practice and prepare focusing on the characteristics of the designated songs analyzed previously. We hope that the results of this study will be helpful to teachers and students preparing for successful music college entrance exams.
