The Analysis on the Wee Class Counselor’s Perception of School Counselor Role

초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the types and properties of Wee Class counselor’s perception of school counselor's roles by using Q-methodology in exploratory manner. As a result, the roles of school counselors were sorted into three types. The first type was named 'Role perception focusing on independent manage school counseling office'. In this case, a school counselor acted as a manager of school counseling office, apart from school organization. The counselor could enjoy a considerable degree of autonomy in the running of the office. The second type was named 'Balanced role perception', having a balanced role perception as a therapist and a member of school organization. The third type was called 'Role perception focused on Psychotherapy'. This type put more emphasis on a therapist’s role than a school counselor’s role and concentrated on improving the capability of a school counselor. These types had a similar perception of school counselor's roles, but had an different awareness in terms of 'the independence of school counseling office' and 'the goal of a school counselor'. Lastly, the meaning and implication of this study in regard to school counseling were discussed.
