초록

I try to find out the beauty of Sijo by looking at Sijo in terms of style. As long as Sijo is an art of languages composed of letters, it shall be viewed in the perspective of style. So, in this paper, I try to find out the styles of the Sijo. Generally the style can be classified into two; substance and form. Therefore the beauty of style can be viewed from perspectives of substance and form. Here I would like to find out the beauty of Sijo by putting emphasis on the substantive perspective, particularly in the view of theme. What the author tries to express through Sijo is his/her core thinking which becomes the core contents of the Sijo. Accordingly, the classification of the works depending on the them is closely related to the original intention of the author. Here I grouped Sijo into educational Sijo and sentimental Sijo. The former Sijo aims to educate people by focusing on the problems of society and groups while the latter is to express individual's personal sentiment or emotion, including Sijo expressing mainly the love between man and woman. I found out from the selection and review of the two types of Sijo that the educational Sijo was created by Confucian scholars who tried to educate people on the idea of Confucianism. As it put emphasis on the education of people, the author tries to expand his/her idea to people. So, I defined the style of educational Sijo as the "beauty of expansion". On the other hand, for the sentimental Sijo, the author tried to put weight not on listener but speaker. It also focus less on the ruler's ideology such as Confucianism's idea but more on the individual's personal sentiment or emotion. In addition, it takes the outside problems to the inside of the speaker, showing his/her emotional sentiment. According to those characteristics, I defined the main style of sentimental Sijo as the "beauty of convergence".
