초록

The mariner elements in Drosophila simulans from an indigenous Korean population were examined using PCR, nucleotide hybridization, and phylogeny, with the aim of determining their molecular and genetic properties. Southern hybridization revealed that there were 3 to 6 copies of the mariner elements on this genome. Fourteen mariner elements were chosen at random for DNA sequencing and compared with the active and inactive elements from A mauritiana and D. simulans. All the isolated mariner elements were 1286 base pairs in length, but 28 nucleotide sites were different. The analyses revealed that the mariner elements in Korean D. simulans are similar to Mos6a and L8 from D. simulans which contained many nucleotide polymorphisms. These results show the distribution and evolutionary characteristics of the mariner elements of D. simulans in a Korean natural population.
