한국사회의 중층적 젠더 불평등: ‘평등 신화’와 불/변하는 여성들의 위치성

초록

The purpose of this paper is to explore what kinds of changes have occurred in neoliberal Korean society and how they have affected women’s lives since 2000. Focusing on women’s fluid positionality in/between neoliberal capitalism and transformed patriarchy, more specifically, I analyzed existing and emerging risks women have confronted and experienced. Women in Korea still suffer from three dimensions of injustice such as economic maldistribution, political participation, and cultural recognition. Moreover, women tend to confront new risks driven by neoliberal notion of individualism such as consumer-based identity formation, commercialization of intimacy, and body as symbolic capital. Because such existing or intensified inequalities and emerging risks are constructed by intersected gender, class, age, sexuality, and race, I argue that feminists scholars should focus on intersectionality as theory, methods and practice based upon the redefined notion of gender as knowledge of sexual difference and interlocking power system, not just as socially constructed difference between men(masculinity) and women(femininity). As such, academic analysis of gender inequality can be part of feminist politics in order to confront and change existing distributions of power and injustice that re/constitute women’s poisitionalities.
