A Study on The Residential Values of Multicultural Workers Based on Attachment Type

초록

(Background and Purpose) Korea has become a multicultural country by bringing together workers worldwide. Foreign workers have supported South Korea's economic development and creativity but have also become an uneasy factor in the domestic environment. However, the population loss in Seoul is now severe. According to previous research, foreign workers have an insufficient attachment to Korea. Preventing population loss and improving the attachment and residential sustainability of long-stranded foreign workers in the living environment and Korean society is of utmost importance. To this end, this study investigates the role of personal values in mediating the attachment and persistent intentions of foreign workers who have been stranded for a long time. (Method) First, attachment type, persistent residence, and values are sorted based on previous studies. Second, due to the limitations of the research subjects, 150 foreign workers who have stayed in Seoul for an extended period are surveyed through on-site and online questionnaires in the areas where the largest number of foreigners from Asian countries live: Seoul, Yeongdeungpo Daelim 2 and 3-dong, Guro 2-dong, Hyehwa-dong, and Jongno-gu. The following results are obtained using the media -effect analysis method. (Results) Three attachment factors are derived from exploratory factor analysis: "safe," "uneasy," and "avoidant." Sustainable residence intention is influenced by four factors: "living environment," "residential facilities," "credibility"(neighborhood trust,)and "economics." Furthermore, personal values have a partial mediating role in the influence of “residential facilities” on “avoidant” attachment and persistent residence intention and a complete mediating role in the impact of “trustworthiness.” (Conclusion) The study’s findings indicate that personal values influence foreign workers’ avoidant attachment to neighborhood trust substantially. Based on the study's results, we propose recommendations regarding the residential environment. First, emphasis is placed on the organization of communication activities among all residents, including foreign residents. Second, we stress the importance of the privacy of the living environment and the comfort of public communication places, which may allow a more peaceful and stable social life in Korea. Finally, we contend that regulating behavior in multicultural activities is vital to creating a comfortable and stable living environment by maintaining social distancing. This study provides a psychological contribution to the current understanding of the relationship between persistent residential intentions and the values of foreign workers who reside in Korea for an extended period. These results are anticipated to be primary material for improving the sense of regional community and regional stability.
