1990년 베이징 아시아경기대회 남북단일팀 구성을 위한 제2차 체육회담

Second Sports Meeting for the Formation of a Unified North-South Team for the 1990 Beijing Asian Games

초록

This study focuses on the second meeting for the formation of a unified North-South team for the Beijing Asian Games. It examines the meeting's policies, negotiation process, outcomes, and evaluations. South Korea established a basic policy of positively considering North Korea's proposals while categorically rejecting their suggestions regarding titles and symbols. Furthermore, South Korea developed detailed policies regarding player selection methods and the composition of a joint training squad. In particular, they partially embraced North Korea's argument of “player selection after joint training” concerning player selection methods. While considering the proposals from the first meeting, South and North Korea submitted slightly modified versions and engaged in discussions concerning the team's composition, titles, and player selection methods. The meeting proceeded in a highly positive atmosphere without any mention of politically-related matters. As a result, North and South Korea reached partial agreements on the team's composition, titles, principles and methods of player selection, and the number of participants in joint training. These positive outcomes brightened the prospects for the meeting.
