Long-term care home-visit nursing is receiving attention as an important care resource for maintaining health and improving the quality of life for the elderly in an aging society. This study aimed to explore the care experiences and their meanings among users of long-term care home-visit nursing using a phenomenological method and to suggest directions for future system and service improvements. Using Moustakas’ (1994) phenomenological analysis procedure, in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 10 users (4 beneficiaries and 6 primary caregivers) who had experience with long-term care home-visit nursing, and the data were analyzed. As a result, eight themes were derived: ‘recognition of the need for care due to difficulties in mobility and walking,’ ‘reliance on family care,’ ‘confusion and burden of care due to lack of knowledge and skills,’ ‘caregiving field with nowhere to turn,’ ‘limitations of care due to lack of care continuity,’ ‘late encounter with the care system amid fragmented information,’ ‘recognition of the necessity of home-visit nursing beginning with home-visit care services,’ and ‘care providing trust and stability through home-visit nursing.’ These results showed that the care experience unfolded within the structural context of ‘beginning of care – encounter with long-term care home-visit nursing – caregiving with long-term care home-visit nursing.’ Based on the findings, this study suggested the need for strengthening public intervention in the initial stage of care, alleviating the psychological and social burden of family caregivers, ensuring continuity of care and strengthening the information delivery system after discharge, and expanding and improving the quality of home-visit nursing services.
