초록
This study aimed to develop a virtual experience of the Gwageo System(the governmentexamination system) of the Joseon dynasty and to explore the implications of VR-based historicalcontent. The Humanities Research Institute at Chung-Ang University recreated the experience ofundergoing the Gwageo of the Joseon dynasty through virtual reality technology. The content ofthe VR application included the process of preparation, Gwageo System(the government examinationsystem) and the ceremony held for those who passed the exam (the Bangbangrye). The applicationis compatible with Oculus Quest 2. The content production process consisted of storyboardcreation, historical evidence and item modelling based on historical records, character design, scene movement method design, user testing, and problem improvement through user experience. Development of the virtual experience of the Gwageo of the Joseon dynasty had three majorimplications: First, through VR, people can experience the Gwageo System, which does not takeplace now, as if they were in the Joseon dynasty. In addition, they can come into contact withthe spatial places that were the settings of the exam. Second, the effectiveness and breadth ofhistory education are increased. In other words, it is possible to improve the learning effect byenhancing the understanding of history through an immersive experience. Third, historicalcontent produced by VR has the advantage of being easily accessible once it is established in acertain environment; it can be accessed by different groups of people in diverse places.
