1930년대 후반 ‘후일담 소설’의 서사적 시간 재구성 양상 고찰
초록
This paper focuses on the literature that Choi Jae-seo defined as 'later-talked' novels of writers from KAFP in the second half of 1930s. The article is Choi Jae-seo's 「Modern novels and topics」 (<Munjang> Vol. 1, No. 6, July 19397). Choi Jae-seo described 'later-talked' as a novel that deviated from the central theme by dealing with episodes. For a critical approach to the discussion of Choi Jae-seo, we approached 'later-talked' by connecting it to the problem of time. The name'Later-talked' is related to the posterior reconstruction of time. Choi Jae-seo's discussion of 'later-talked' emphasizes the'non-chronological' or 'disconnected plot', which is a characteristic of modern novels. Choi Jae-seo's 'later-talked' emphasizes the negative aspect that the overwhelming situation of the Sino-Japanese War in the second half of the 1930s impacted the narrative of novels. On the other hand, in the second half of the 1930s, the novels of writers from KAPF chose 'the Advance War of Thought that endured the times through the temporal reconstruction of the narrative. The texts for our analysis are Kim Nam-cheon's 「Dancing husband」(1937), Lee Gi-yeong's 「Flint」 (1939), and Han Seol-ya's 「Muddy Ground」(1939). The three novels tried to endure the difficulties of the times of the second half of the 1930s by embodying the writers' ideological continuity through the time rearrangement of the narrative. Kim Nam-cheon critically reconstructed the temporal break of the narrative through the theory of accusatory literature. Lee Gi-yeong tried to secure the inner connection of his thoughts through a method of bypassing censorship. Han Seol-ya showed a pattern of reinforcing the inner continuation of the ideology by distinguishing between the external and internal narratives in a more active way. Kim Nam-cheon, Lee Gi-yeong and Han Seol-ya were engaged in the “Advance War of Thought” in the second half of the 1930s through temporal reconstruction of novel narratives. We revealed that the article 「The protagonist of a recent novel」 of Im Hwa ((<Munjang> Volume 1, No. 8, September 1939) was also a discussion criticizing Choi Jae-seo's 「Modern novels and topics」. Choi Jae-seo approached 'later-talked' in relation to 'subject', while Im Hwa critically approached the 'ideologically converted novels' in relation to 'characters'. Im Hwa expressed interest in the aspect of a character with a splendid past who is now agonizing. Im Hwa focused on the artist's “inner agony” by presenting the subject of criticism, “personalization of the protagonist”, which contrasts with Choi Jae-seo’s “subject”. In the second half of the 1930s, amid the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War and the dissolution of KAPF, and a change in the literary landscape due to censorship, writers from KAPF chose to write novels that utilize their allowed freedom to realize their 'will to write'. The novels by Kim Nam-cheon, Lee Gi-yeong, and Han Seol-ya in the second half of the 1930s do not belong to the 'later-talked' category named by Choi Jae-seo, but should be named the 'inside asylum literature that confronts the times through internal writing for the continuation of ideas.
