사진-인덱스를 통해 본 주체-작동자 부재의 사진 의미 연구

초록

Unlike other artistic devices, photography prioritizes the disappearance of its operator. The subject-operator, does not appear in the resulting image; instead, their presence is concealed through absence. The concept of the photo-index suggests that a photograph serves as a trace of reality. What the photo-index truly signifies is absence—something related to the formation beyond the visible image. This absence or excess of meaning is filled by the viewer’s experience and imagination. Photography presents something not only about what exists but also about what is absent. The visible calls forth the invisible. Within the immediate relationship between presence and absence, photography seeks an appropriate meaning.
