The World Table Tennis Championships in Pyongyang was decided in Birmingham, England in Mar. 28, 1977. International table tennis federation recognized luring of The World Table Tennis Championships in Pyongyang because North Korea guaranteed participation of South Korea, The USA, and Israel. North Korea suggested organization of the unified team of South and North Korea in Feb. 20, 1979 when is two months before the Championships. South Korea accepted the suggestion. Then, South Korean government had negative view about suggestion of North Korea but South Korea government accepted the suggestion to know intention of North Korea for the suggestion and furthermore, to show spirit of '1.19 suggestion to North Korea’ of president Park Chung-hee. Basic strategy of South Korea for the talks was to 'against organizing of unified team' and 'independent participation' of South Korean squad while Basic strategy of North Korea for the talks was 'organizing of unified team' and 'blocking of independent participation' of South Korean squad. Due to such contradictory strategy of South and North Korea, talks of four times finished without any fruit.
