A study on the determinants of the silver generation’s ICT use: Focusing on the color environment from a visual-perceptual perspective

This research studied ICT use determinants to realize a ‘digital aging’ policy of silver generation in Korea. First, demographic factors such as silver generation’s age and gender were investigated. Second, silver generation’s socioeconomic factors were investigated. Third, silver generation’s visualperceptual characteristics were investigated. And, the effects of the above three inquiry subjects on the silver generation’s ICT use determinants were overall investigated. The result showed: first, demographic factors such as age and gender did not have any influence on the silver generation’s ICT use determinants. Second, socioeconomic factors such as educational background, economic capacity and physical condition also did not have any influence. Third, a survey was conducted to investigate silver generation’s visual-perceptual characteristics and difference according to gender. Characteristics of digital color environment that silver generation easily perceives and prefers were investigated by researching brightness difference between background and foreground, perception degree of color arrangement and preference of color image. These research results showed silver generation’s demographic and socioeconomic factors did not have a direct influence on the silver generation’s ICT use determinants. That is to say, it was found that visual aging phenomenon according to visual-perceptual characteristics and color environment uncomfortable to use ICT had a direct influence on the silver generation’s ICT use determinants. © Research India Publications.
