Radar System Combining Frequency Diverse Array and Time-Modulated Array

This paper proposes for the first time a radar system that combines a frequency diverse array (FDA) and a time-modulated array (TMA) for target localization. The Tx FDA forms an autoscan beam with range-angle dependent characteristics, and the two-element Rx TMA extracts the angle of the received signal reflected from targets with a simple structure and algorithm, enabling target localization without complicated beam steering. The Tx and Rx signals are derived theoretically, and the signal processing algorithm is described in detail for the simultaneous extraction of range, angle, and velocity. To validate the proposed system and algorithms, a radar system is systematically designed to meet the given radar requirements, and numerical simulations are performed.
