초록
Sweeteners are food additives used to replace sugar and reduce calories while enhancing food quality. In South Korea, standards and specifications have been established for 22 sweeteners (21 for sweetening, excluding erythritol), while regulatory approaches vary significantly across regions: Codex (16), EU (13), Japan (15), US (18), China (16), and Australia (6). This review examines regulatory frameworks and import trends of food sweeteners in South Korea compared to international standards. Analysis reveals import volumes of designated sweeteners—particularly D-sorbitol, D-sorbitol solution, and erythritol—are either stabilizing or rapidly increasing, indicating high import reliance. To address compliance gaps, regulatory harmonization with international standards and updated analytical methods are recommended. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable data for enhancing the competitiveness and ensuring the safety of the domestic food industry.
