Literature of self-excuse ― About Jang Hyukju’s Japanese novel based on Baek Shinae

초록

In April 1932, Jang Hyukju was selected as the second artist of the Aggido in the contest of the novel of <Renovation>, the Japanese magazine. Since its first appearance, Jang Hyukju continued to write novels in newspapers and published novels in Japan. He poured a lot of energy into creating his works, to express his desire to become a recognized writer in the Cho-sun Dynasty. However, the fact that a generation educated in Japanese as a “Korean language” in the colonial era was able to write novels in Japanese and receive recognition from the Japanese paragraphs was enough to complicate the heart of the Cho-sun texts. The evaluation of Jang Hyukju moves between criticism and favorability, and the use of the Korean language and the identity of Korean literature leads to harsher evaluations. In such instances, Jang Hyukju complained about the Cho-sun texts that did not recognize him. In October 1935, he published an article entitled The Plague Fungus of the Literary Society in Samcheolli and argued with Lee Mooyoung and Kim Moongeep. In this article, he compared the closeness and partiality of the Cho-sun Dynasty to the “The Plague Fungus” and expressed his own complaints. After this debate, Jang Hyukju left for the Japanese paragraph in the summer of 1936. In Japan, a welcome party for Jang Hyukju was held, and in September of the same year, he became the editor of Guide to Literature. However, the interest of the Tokyo literary people gradually disappeared and the activity gradually lessened, and the more he was unable to go back to the Jang Hyukju Dynasty, the more he worried that he had made the wrong choice. Over more than 20 years, Jang Hyukju presented four Japanese novels: Wol-Hui and I, A confession of love, A wandering report, and A foreign husband modeled after the writings of the female novelist Baek Shinae. All of these works are not turn-around , but are mindful of the stupid excuse of being an unhappy man that was manipulated by a woman. Finally, Jang Hyukju, who criticized the paragraph of his country as “The Plague Fungus” and crossed over to Japan, narrowed the huge discourse of pro-Japanese through novels based on the Baek Shinae model to cope with his very personal excuse. Therefore, these four novels are merely an excuse and portray the cowardly logic of the pro-Japanese writer.
