초록
Hidden champions, as defined by Hermann Simon (1990), are small but globally successful enterprises that remain relatively unknown. In Germany, these firms are uniquely concentrated in small towns and rural areas rather than metropolitan centers, contributing to balanced regional development and economic revitalization. The locational choice of these hidden champions in small towns is shaped by a combination of factors, including historical influences, internal corporate dynamics, industrial and infrastructural considerations, and institutional and policy frameworks. Collectively, these factors positively impact regional development by fostering job creation, population inflow, and increased tax revenue. While previous studies have focused on the success factors of German hidden champions, this study examines their regional context to explore strategic insights for small and medium-sized enterprises in South Korea to enhance small-town and rural development.
