88서울올림픽대회 관련 제4차 남북체육회담과 종결과정에 관한 연구

초록

After the Third Conference, IOC prepared a mediation proposal to propose holding the Fourth Conference between the South and North Koreas. While South Korea has unconditionally accepted the proposal of the IOC, North Korea responded with acceptance in principle and insisted to have discussions regarding the allocation of additional events at the Fourth Conference. As the IOC accepted this suggestion, it was decided to hold the Conference. Based on the Fourth Conference, the IOC proposed a modified mediation proposal to the South and North Koreas, urging the hold of the Fifth Conference. In response to the proposal of the IOC, South Korea readily accepted while North Korea rejected to accept the mediation proposal and demanded the Fifth Conference to be held. Due to the change in the policy on North Korea of the Roh Tae-woo administration, a social atmosphere within South Korea for urging North Korea to participate in the Olympics held jointly between the two Koreas was created. Yet, as North Korea proclaimed not to participate in the Olympics, the Conference regarding Seoul 1988 Summer Olympics had ended.
