초록
This study examines sports activities conducted on the Han River during the Japanese colonial period, focusing on swimming, boating, and skating, in order to investigate the historical significance of these activities. The conclusions are as follows. The Han River has served as a space for a wide range of sports activities throughout all four seasons. In particular, during the summer, it functioned as a summer resort where various swimming activities and boating took place, while in winter, it became a venue for various skating competitions aimed at physical and mental training. However, these sports facilities and activities are considered to have negative aspects, as most of them were established and carried out mainly by the Japanese. Nevertheless, various sports activities on the Han River not only functioned as a venue for leisure activities for Chosun people, but also served as spaces that fostered unity among Chosun people and it also played a positive role as a place to train the mind and body. Considering the perspective of modern Korean sports history as a whole, the Han River can be seen as a significant historical site that aligned with the spread and development of modern sports in Korea.
