EBS 관련 영어교육 분야 연구 동향 분석

초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trends in research studies conducted in the field of English education in relation to Educational Broadcasting System (EBS). A total of 67 academic articles, published by professional scholarly journals in Korea from 2000 to 2018, are found relevant. The established categories for the analysis are as follows: annual trends, researchers, scholarly journals, research topics, subjects, research methodologies, and languages for writing. The major findings include the followings: (1) the history of EBS as well as English education policies had an influence on the number of and the topics of the research articles; (2) the research articles were produced by a wide range of researchers, and thus, there were only a few researchers who have consistently published relevant articles; (3) there was no research article about young children before schooling, college or university students, and adults; (4) most preferred research topics were related to the EBS educational contents, especially for the national College Scholastic Aptitude Test (CSAT), while there was only one research article about making use of the contents; and (5) research conducted through direct observation was inadequate and quantitative research articles were found more than qualitative ones. These findings brought some suggestions for further research studies such as a call for more research about effective applications of EBS contents to various educational contexts, more balanced research on English learning and teaching for diverse learners, and more research through direct observation and qualitative methodologies to reflect the reality of instructional contexts that are using EBS.
