청소년기 물질주의와 대인관계의 질, 성인기 행복의 장기적 관계

초록

This study examined the long-term relationship among adolescents’ materialism, interpersonal relations, and adulthood happiness. For this purposes, the author analyzed data from Korean Education and Employment Panel (high school seniors’ cohort) yearly tracing a total of 4,000 high school third graders (2,222 males and 1,778 females) for over ten years. The results of the structural equation modeling for the relation among materialism, quality of interpersonal relationship and happiness are as follows. Firstly, adolescents’ materialism negatively related to the quality of interpersonal relationship 4 years later and happiness 10 years later. Secondly, people with low quality of interpersonal relationship showed low level of happiness after 6 years. These results suggest that adolescents’ materialism has a long-term negative relation to adulthood psychosocial adaptation.
