This study aims to identify the degree of homogeneity and regional characteristics of the provincial system by analyzing the location and government composition of Gamyeong. This will provide general direction to trace regional governance in the late Joseon Dynasty. The location characteristics are analyzed in three categories:Gamyeongs that remained unchanged after the installation in the early Joseon Dynasty, ones that moved due to war, and ones that moved for other reasons. As a result, it was possible to confirm that the distance from Seoul, the status of the region, the distance with the concurrent office, and the central part of the province as the main aspects for the selection of the Gamyeong. In other words, the status of the Gamyeong is the same for each province, but the location of the Gamyeong was determined after the administrative situation and regional characteristics of the province were considered. The officials commonly dispatched to the 8th Provincial Gamyeong were Dosa, Sunyeongjungun, and Geomryul. All of them were subject to performance evaluations, and it was suggested that their performance was a major device in securing the homogeneity of local administration. The government officials who differ by province were Shimyak, Hwasa-Gungwan, Gyesa who was dispatched from Hojo, and Yeokak. Shimyak, Hwasa-Gungwan was not dispatched only to Gyeonggi in the late Joseon Dynasty. Gyesa was dispatched only to Gamyeong, and Pyeongan. Yeokak was dispatched only to the Yellow Sea, Hamgyeong, and Pyeongan Gamyeong. Yeokak was mainly dispatched to Byeongyeong. Unlike the common officials, most of other officials were not subject to performance evaluations. Officials that differ by province seem to be related to the characteristics of their task and the characteristics of each province. Gyeonggi was the space surrounding Seoul, and Hamgyeong, Hwanghae, and Pyeongan were border areas, especially Pyeongan was on the main route of the embassador.
