초록
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationship between life skills, fall efficacy, and quality of life in the elderly, with a particular focus on verifying the mediating effect of fall efficacy. Methods: Data were collected using standardized questionnaires from 273 elderly individuals (125 men and 148 women) aged 65 and over, residing in Seoul and the metropolitan area, including Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability tests, correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and mediation effect verification were conducted using SPSS and AMOS programs. Results: First, there was a high correlation between life skills, fall efficacy, and quality of life in the elderly, with significant correlations observed in all sub-factors. Second, the causal model regarding the elderly’s life skills, fall efficacy, and quality of life was found to be appropriate. Third, the elderly’s life skills positively affected fall efficacy. Fourth, fall efficacy positively affected quality of life. Fifth, the elderly’s life skills positively affected quality of life. Lastly, fall efficacy completely mediated the relationship between life skills and quality of life in the elderly. Conclusion: The health and happiness of the elderly are positively influenced by their life skills and fall efficacy. In particular, fall efficacy is a crucial variable for the quality of life of the elderly, indicating the need for program development and institutional support to prevent falls and enhance fall efficacy.
