This study aimed to validate a reliable self-report assessment tool tailored to the Korean context for accurately identifying the types and severity of Body Dysmorphic Disorder(BDD) symptoms. To this end, the Korean version of the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Symptom Scale(BDD-SS) was translated and adapted. Focusing on the severity score subscale, the study examined its factor structure, reliability, and validity among a non-clinical adult population in South Korea. Of the original scale’s seven subscales and 54 items, the severity score was specifically analyzed for its psychometric properties. Confirmatory factor analysis of the initial model showed poor fit, leading to item reduction based on factor loadings and modification indices. The revised model, comprising 20 items across four factors, demonstrated acceptable fit. Correlational analyses with the K-BIPIS, AAS, and BVI-SI-A showed significant associations with psychological inflexibility and appearance acceptance, partially supporting convergent validity. Although the correlation with appearance instrumentality was significant, it was weak, indicating limited convergent validity. All inter-construct correlations were below .85, supporting discriminant validity. These findings suggest that the Korean BDD-SS is a psychometrically sound and clinically useful tool for assessing BDD symptom severity.
