초록

In this paper, I examine the relationship between the causal structure and the explanatory structure of the world. First, I will argue that we must accept the existence of disjunctive explanations and that my theory of explanation best accounts for our intuitions about them. Next, I will argue that my theory of explanation makes it possible to construct a model that reconciles a multi-layered explanatory structure with a flat causal structure of the world. Finally, I will argue that given this model, we have good reason to believe that the picture science provides reveals the world's explanatory structure, not its causal structure.
