Carbon nano fibers (CNFs) are representative one-dimension (1-D) carbons. CNFs are promising materials because of good electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties that are inexpensive. And these properties are depending on synthesis routes of CNFs, such as vapor growth, template synthesis, electrospinning, drawing, phase separation, and self-assembly. Types, radius, length, arrays, and surface areas of CNFs are different according to the synthesis. CNFs have been used in a wide range of applications like electronics, sensors, and biotechnology. In this review, various synthesis routes of CNFs and the properties are introduced. Also fuel cells, supercapacitors, and electrochemical biosensors using CNFs are reviewed.
