문화적 특성에 따른 책 표지 디자인에 대한 인식 차이

초록

In this research, we examine if the same book cover design exerts different influences on individuals according to their cultural characteristics. For that purpose, a cross-cultural experiment was conducted in which Korean and American participants viewed a book cover with or without a background image and a jacket band. Results show that the same book cover design can lead people to different perceptions and experience different levels of information overload, which influences different impacts on purchase intention. We argue that design is a cultual process and international publishers need to apply cultural elements to the cover design process more seriously.
