This study investigates how variation in chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) content and blending with ferroelectric P(VDF–TrFE) copolymer affect the electromechanical actuation characteristics of relaxor ferroelectric P(VDF–TrFE–CTFE) terpolymers. Three terpolymers with CTFE contents of 4.2, 11.4, and 12.7 mol% and their blends with P(VDF–TrFE) copolymers (55:45 and 75:25) were fabricated into unimorph actuators. The strain–electric field responses of unimorph actuators were investigated at 25 and 60 °C. The actuation stress, defined as the product of the elastic modulus and the strain, was used as a metric for analyzing the performance under mechanical loading. Contrary to previous understanding, the terpolymer with 4.2 mol% CTFE exhibited the highest displacement and actuation stress at both temperatures. Blending with P(VDF–TrFE) (55:45) significantly enhanced room-temperature performance, whereas blending with P(VDF–TrFE) (75:25) improved actuation stability at elevated temperatures. These findings suggest a revision of the existing understanding regarding the optimal CTFE content, highlighting the importance of direct evaluation of the electromechanical parameters, including the actuation stress, for developing high-performance polymer actuator materials.
