One of the characteristics of contemporary philosophy can be described as the discovery of the mind along with the falling of soul. The prospect of the scientific research could eventually unveil the substance of the human mind. This expectation seems to rely on the ‘accomplishment’ of natural science instead of the ‘reflection’ of human science. Despite the fact that there have been a significant number of studies of mind, it is questionable how well we really understand the mind. It is also commonly known that mind(Geist) as ‘the realm of possibility’, differs from the material area, irreducible to scientific explanation. For example, some people maintain that art, literature and religion etc. are the peculiar areas of mind. Inasmuch as that reason, there seems to be a big gap between natural science and human science. Indeed the attitude of contrary between natural science and human science remains. For example, the way of thinking in hermeneutics is assessed as a ‘loosen reflection’ contrast with the strictness and accuracy in natural science. Nevertheless, natural science keeps silent about which ‘loosening’ expands the way of thinking. In the attitude of hermeneutics, it is defined that the way of thinking of natural science is limited or derivative. Even hermeneutics itself insists on lifting the ‘fundamental’ world and understands that human beings don’t put too much weight on natural science informing fundamental sources. For that reason, two sides have been in conflict without much discussion. Therefore, this study will introduce the tangency between two fields through the shared interest and supplementation of hermeneutics and cognitive science. In addition, this study will also suggest the task of hermeneutics for the contemporary studies of mind.
