초록

The objective of this study is to analyze the characteristics and types of speech manuscripts using metaphors and consider how to write a manuscript using metaphors. To this end, this study analyzed three-minute speech manuscripts of 31 students taking a liberal arts presentation class at a university. Results showed that there are three ways to use metaphors: using words, using idioms or proverbs, or using the story itself. As a result of verifying the correlation of these types with the quality of speech manuscripts through a statistic technique, it was found that the story-type manuscripts best connect the components of the figure of speech with the subject of the metaphor and also had the highest scores in adequacy in terms of metaphor descriptions and amount of main context descriptions. This may be because the story form has a specific structure that includes characters and themes.
