초록

The aim of the paper is to reveal the actuality of Marx’s Capital by examining the history of concept formation and the development of ‘reproduction’, and by investigating the internal relationship of reproduction and system in Marx’s thought. A rupture in the usages and implications of the concept may be found in Marx’s critiques of political economy written between Grundrisse and Capital. One of the outstanding conceptual differences between the two works is the emergence of the ‘total social capital’ concept in Capital Volume II, which opens a way towards considering capital movement as a system dynamic. Its essential implication can be found in the phrase, “Capital is consequences as well as preconditions for capitalist production.” To reveal the meaning of this proposition, four ‘equal relationships’ should be established: 1) preconditions = consequences, 2) distributive relations = productive relations, 3) capitalist property = capitalist appropriation, 4) system = ideology. In conclusion, capi- talism can be interpreted as an ‘imaginary system’ that reproduces its fictitious qualities with a natural systemicity, buttressed by ‘artificial’ historical- institutional conditions.
