자제 대 패권: 탈냉전기 미국 대전략의 이해

초록

The Cold War’s end has spawned divers grand strategies that had aspired to replace containment. This paper 1) traces the very historical conceptualization of grand strategy by the British strategists in the wake of WW I and how the 1945-53 ‘Golden Age’ of America grand strategy had founded American hegemony through containment and national security state; and 2) analyses and evaluates the rise and foundations of a great debate between strategy of restraint-offshore balancing and American hegemony exceptionalism, by focusing on the main theoretical issue of whether or nor American hegemony in the post-Cold War unipolarity is susceptible to balancing.
