경제 안보 리스크와 경제적 상호보완성의 상호작용: 한중 배터리 협력의 변화를 중심으로

초록

This study examines why and how Korea has restructured its battery-sector supply- chain cooperation with China in response to heightened economic security risks. The analysis explains the evolution of Korea–China cooperation as an outcome of the interaction between supply-chain and geopolitical risks, and the underlying economic complementarity between firms in both countries. Given Korea’s structural dependence on Chinese battery materials, relocating China-concentrated segments of the supply chain to Korea emerged as an alternative strategy to mitigate escalating risks while maintaining cooperation. At the micro level, complementarities in the battery value chain—illustrated by the LG Chem–Huayou Cobalt and POSCO Future M–CNGR cases—shaped the emergence of new cooperative arrangements. The findings show that economic security risks have not reduced bilateral cooperation but have instead transformed its form and direction, underscoring the continued viability of flexible, complementarity-based cooperation.
