In this paper, the research trends in Korean contemporary poetry from 2017 to 2023, covering a span of 7 years, were reviewed, and several characteristics and changes were examined. Firstly, the changes observed in the field of poetology and thematic research, which still hold the highest proportion, were explored. Among the poets who have consistently been the subject of research in the past 7 years are Kim So-wol, Jung Ji-yong, Lee Sang, Baek Seok, Yun Dong-ju, Kim Su-yeong, Kim Chun-su, and Kim Jong-sam. Among them, it was confirmed that Yun Dong-ju, Kim Su-yeong, Kim Jong-sam, and Kim Chun-su have seen an increase in research output in the past 7 years as they celebrated their 100th birth anniversary. Furthermore, it was noted that the scope of contemporary poetry research has expanded to include the 1980s and 1990s, leading to a significant increase in research on poets representing those decades. Secondly, a relative decrease in exploration of concepts and methodologies in poetic theory was observed in the recent 7-year period of dissertations. Studies on AI-generated poetry and the role of the creative subject demonstrated attempts to break through the established methods of contemporary poetry research. However, it is deemed more necessary to engage in research that not only utilizes developed AI technologies but also provides direction and critical analysis, rather than solely focusing on utilizing AI technology. Thirdly, the increase in foreign exchange students and graduate students has contributed to the active comparative research with foreign poets, which is closely related to the changes in the Korean contemporary poetry academic community. Translation studies were also examined in conjunction with this phenomenon. Lastly, several new research topics were proposed from the perspective of expanding research themes or the potential for interdisciplinary research. Given the nature of contemporary poetry research, which naturally allows for the exploration of one's own research topics through contemplation on today's society and poetic forms, it is necessary to move away from conservative practices regarding research scope and embrace more challenging and innovative research topics. There is a need to explore research topics such as poetry in the era of climate crisis, diaspora poetry, the relationship between K-pop and Korean contemporary poetry, and to establish a more expansive and interdisciplinary research perspective. Active efforts are also required to develop new research topics that consider the interests and demands of the new generation of emerging researchers.
