Mass spectrometry-based metabolomics for high-throughput natural products screening and compound discovery: an emerging trend

Natural product (NP) research, including NP-based drug discovery, is a multifaceted field of investigation that requires strong analytical platforms. Owing to high sensitivity and robustness, mass spectroscopy (MS)-based metabolomics is the most favored and dominant technology in NP research. MS-based metabolomics platforms have been widely used in natural product profiling and quality control, and natural product drug discovery. This chapter provides an overview of fundamental aspects of MS-based metabolomics and its applications in NP research. Along with this, current trends in the field are also highlighted. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
