서울역 주변 환경색채 특성 연구 -문화역서울284와 주변 건축물의 색채 비교를 중심으로-

[Research Background and Purpose] Recently, the preservation and utilization of historical assets have emerged as an important issue in urban regeneration, emphasizing the importance of 'environmental colors', a key factor in determining the identity of historical and cultural landscapes. However, the area of Seoul Station, Korea's representative gateway and historical symbol space, is experiencing serious visual dissonance due to the reckless use of colors by surrounding modern buildings based on commercialism. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to empirically identify the color 'relationship' and 'continuity' between historical assets and surrounding modern buildings by quantitatively comparing and analyzing the environmental color characteristics between the symbol of Seoul Station, 'Culture Station Seoul 284 (formerly Seoul Station)' and surrounding modern buildings. [Research Method] The scope of the study was limited to nine modern buildings with great visual influence, located in front of Munhwa Station Seoul 284 and Seoul Station Plaza. As an analysis method, by applying the Moonsell System, an international standard color system, a quantitative on-site survey using a colorimeter was conducted. The collected casting and auxiliary color data of each building were categorized according to the three attributes of Munsell (color, brightness, and saturation), and based on this, the harmony between historical assets (subject) and modern buildings (background) was analyzed. [Research Results] As a result of the analysis, Cultural Station Seoul 284 showed the characteristics of the indigo system (R, Y) and natural materials (stone, brick) and formed a clear 'reference color' of the landscape. On the other hand, the surrounding modern buildings were polarized into a 'harmony group' with high-light and low-color background colors and a 'dissonance group' using high-color and Korean-color system (PB, B) glass. In particular, the glass curtain wall of large buildings such as KDB Life Insurance was found to be a key factor in disconnecting the continuity of the landscape by making an extreme complementary color contrast with the standard color. In conclusion, it was suggested that the area around Seoul Station lacks color relationship, and in the future, it is urgent to establish specific color guidelines based on Munsell H V/C values and to regulate high-color reflective materials.
