초록
This study examines the process of developing multicultural sensitivity for Korean academic advisor who supervises foreign graduate students based on Bennet(1993)'s developmental stage of multicultural sensitivity. Especially, the process results in the problem of communication, changes in advisor's recognition, and institutional improvement. Researchers figured out how experiences of studying abroad and foreign student teaching experience affect the development of multicultural sensitivity. As a result of the depth interview, professors who had been studying overseas realize the cultural difference on the basis of experience on another culture, and have a view on cultural relativism which enables to expand cultural identities. In addition, while instructing foreign graduate students' advisors can understand and enjoy multiculture by internalizing multicultural sensitivity. On the other hand, advisors who do not study abroad tend to get defensive posture at the first time when they supervise foreigners. However, as time goes by more than five years, they change themselves through recognizing similarities and accepting cultural differences by interacting with foreign students who have various cultures. Also, they are trying to communicate well with students until now.
