A Study on the Directing Techniques Embedded in Sasha Waltz’s Korper — Focusing on the Use of Montage Techniques —

초록

This study analyzed the directing characteristics of Sasha Waltz's work 'Korper', which focuses on montage techniques. Contemporary dance is characterized by discontinuity, image-centered composition, and fusion between genres, away from the narrative-centered structure, and montage is attracting attention in a way that creates meaning in these changes. As a result of the analysis, 'Korper' presents the body as a fragmented symbol, and the form revealed a nonlinear structure through repetition, collision, and juxtaposition. In addition, the space functioned as an editing device that induces scene transformation, not as a stage background. This study confirmed that the montage technique can be a practical creative strategy that expands the expression method and directing possibilities of dance.
