A Study on Aging In Place and Social Relational Factors

초록

Aging in place(AIP), which means a senior being able to stay in the place of their choice, is likely to improve seniors’ quality of life. With Korea`s rapidly aging population, the concept of AIP has drawn much attention in the field of housing and community studies. It has been suggested from the previous studies that the social relationship is one of the important factors affecting the AIP. This study aims to identify the impact of social relationship factors on seniors’ API using KLIPS(Korean Labor and Income Panel study) data that surveyed from 2008 to 2017. The findings of this study show that factors such as gender, age, conditions of physical constraints, average cost of living, and home-ownership are likely to have a close relationship with the choice of seniors’ stay in their community. Most importantly, the result shows that seniors’ social relationships and leisure life have a significant effect on a longer stay in their community.
