IEEE 802.11에서 중첩된 BSS의 성능 감소 완화 방안

초록
Due to the increasing number of Wi-Fi devices and inexpensive APs, it is quite common that a lot of nodes and APs use the same channel with the same frequency band. This phenomenon is known as Overlapping Basic Service Set (OBSS). Network performance in the OBSS environment is severely degraded by frame collisions among various management frames as well as data frames. In this paper we have showed performance anomaly, where the conventional methods reducing frame collisions have rather bad effects on performance. Then we proposed methods mitigating performance degradation in OBSS. One is a BSS configuration method utilizing the fact that majority of BSSs in OBSS are usually operated not publically but privately. The other is to perform link-level congestion control by adjusting Retry Limit of 802.11. The validity of the second has been tested through simulation using OPNET.
